Sentinel Gap - story and artwork
Author's Notes: Sentinel Gap and Devils Canyon (yes, there isn't an apostrophe in there, as that's how it is on the maps) are indeed, actual places in Washington State, much to my ever-lasting amusement. Distances have been slightly handwaved with the aid of Google Maps, but not so much that it's particularly egregious. This is what's known as a 'Weird West' setting-- ie, the American version of Victorian-era steampunk. There are mentions of some actual historical people in this 'fic; Bass Reeves was, indeed, an African-American Deputy US Marshal, and a very successful one at that.
